Poem of the Week: Writing Frustrations: What am I Doing Wrong?

Writing Frustrations: What am I Doing Wrong?
November 11, 2023

What am I doing wrong?
What am I saying—
Saying to alienate?
Saying to offend?
Offend the masses,
Offend my audience—
Audience who once supported me,
Audience with whom I’ve lost touch—
Touch with the people.
Touch with the world.
World so unpredictable.
World always changing—
Changing too oft for the worse,
Changing in so many ways—
Ways that work against me,
Ways I oft don’t understand—
Understand what people like,
Understand what people want...
Want to read and hear,
Want to talk about—
About with others.
About time…
Time I found out,
Time I learned—
Learned to improve,
Learned to tap—
Tap into what’s going on,
Tap into society’s consciousness.
Consciousness I’ve lost.
Consciousness necessary—
Necessary to stay relevant,
Necessary to further adapt—
Adapt my craft,
Adapt as a person—
Person and content creator,
Person among the people—
People whose support I need.
People I need to survive—
Survive in my field,
Survive and thrive—
Thrive if I hope,
Thrive if I dare—
Dare to redeem my reputation,
Dare to make a name—
Name for myself,
Name as an author—
Author of what people want,
Author of what people love.
Want…
Love.

Bonus Poem of the Week: Make Time

Make Time
October 12, 2023

Make time.
Make the effort—
Effort to shape up,
Effort to improve—
Improve your health and wellbeing,
Improve your talents and space.
Space out your daily routine.
Space out your daily tasks—
Tasks in terms of importance,
Tasks in terms of necessity—
Necessity of balance,
Necessity to make the most—
Most out of your day,
Most out of life.
Life is too short.
Life is too precious—
Precious to waste,
Precious to squander—
Squander on petty stuff,
Squander on trivial matters—
Matters that stunt your growth,
Matters that hold you back—
Back from improving yourself,
Back from becoming the best—
Best you can be,
Best at what you do.
Do yourself justice.
Do yourself a favor—
Favor self-growth,
Favor time management.
Management means efficiency.
Management means control—
Control of your life,
Control of your destiny—
Destiny you deserve,
Destiny for which you’re working—
Working so hard,
Working for so long.
Long dreamed of,
Long desired.
Desired is success.
Desired, too, is time.
Time we’ve never enough of.
Time keeps slipping away—
Away from us mortals,
Away from us all.
All of us must manage.
All of us have limited time.
Manage…
Time.

Bonus Poem of the Week: What Do People Want? A Hard Lesson for Writers

Hello, readers.

Before I showcase today’s poem, I simply want to put out there that I’ve been noticing less and less feedback for my work over these last three to four months. Usually, I know better than to beg for “likes” and whatnot, and I know that likes on WordPress blogs haven’t carried quite as much weight in the not-too-distant past as they had five, ten years ago or so. Nevertheless, inasmuch as I’m trying to create a blog for as many people as possible to enjoy, I need to know what I’m doing right and what I can improve on as far as this website is concerned, and if you truly enjoy my work, hitting the “like” button and leaving me feedback in the comments section of each blog post would help out much more than I can say here alone. After all, I first thought that I was on to something by continuing my epic poem series Ignatius the Fed-Up Goblin this past June 21, but then I happened to publish part four of the story last week, and things went right back to square one.

That said, people, at the risk of sounding needy, I encourage you to leave me feedback for what I post here on my blog from here on out, for if nothing else, I’d at least like to know that people are enjoying what I’m posting. Also, please don’t be afraid to let me know what you’d like to see here on my blog in the future. After all, my sixth and (more likely than not) final part of my revised reboot for Bloody Roar is still in the works, and yes, I have been taking much longer to produce it than what I’d been hoping, but I do still intend to publish it here in the near future. That said, do you want more articles? What additional topics would you like me to cover in my poetry? Please let me know, and until next time, thank you for your support.

What Do People Want? A Hard Lesson for Writers
July 10, 2023

What do people want?
What will people read—
Read or listen to?
Read and appreciate?
Appreciate fact?
Appreciate fiction?
Fiction as in entertainment?
Fiction as in lies?
Lies meant to hide the truth?
Lies meant to hurt people?
People oft exasperate.
People can be so frustrating—
Frustrating and rude,
Frustrating and fickle—
Fickle with their tastes,
Fickle in their appreciation—
Appreciation for quality,
Appreciation for what they’re given.
Given little feedback.
Given little indication—
Indication of what you’re doing wrong,
Indication of what you’re doing right.
Right place,
Right time…
Time to decide!
Time to plan!
Plan your future.
Plan your next work.
Work smart.
Work consistently—
Consistently expressing your passions,
Consistently fleshing out your imagination—
Imagination to run wild,
Imagination to guide you—
You and your heart,
You and your soul.
Soul in every paragraph.
Soul in every word.
Word will spread.
Word will attract—
Attract those interested,
Attract those who can sense—
Sense your drive,
Sense your ambition.
Ambition appreciated,
Ambition fulfilled—
Fulfilled at last!
Fulfilled, every word!
Last…
Word.

Bonus Poem of the Week: Time to Exercise

Time to Exercise
April 29, 2023

Too long at my computer.
Too long on my carcass.
Carcass needs to move around.
Carcass needs to get up.
Up and at ‘em!
Up and down to the gym—
Gym where I keep in shape,
Gym where I get my blood pumping.
Pumping hard-hitting music.
Pumping iron.
Iron barbells lead to
Iron arms—
Arms to be proud of,
Arms that help me work—
Work in the yard.
Work, too, on my legs—
Legs with which I walk,
Legs with which I ride—
Ride my stationary bike.
Ride to get my blood flowing—
Flowing freely,
Flowing smoothly.
Smoothly transitioning to lateral pulls.
Smoothly pulling the bar.
Bar down,
Bar back up.
Up goes my back strength,
Up alongside my heartrate—
Heartrate and breathing,
Heartrate and stamina.
Stamina I need,
Stamina to take on life—
Life that never slows down,
Life ever demanding—
Demanding of the body,
Demanding of the mind.
Mind I do, then, my health.
Mind I do my wellbeing.
Wellbeing always under fire.
Wellbeing always tested—
Tested in this life,
Tested in this world—
World riddled with challenges,
World unforgiving—
Unforgiving and often cruel.
Unforgiving…but rewarding—
Rewarding those who take care,
Rewarding those who maintain themselves…
Care…
Themselves.

Poem of the Week: Be a Decent Person

Be a Decent Person
February 27, 2023

Be a decent person.
Be kind—
Kind and helpful,
Kind and considerate—
Considerate to your neighbors,
Considerate to the masses—
Masses otherwise oblivious,
Masses otherwise absorbed—
Absorbed in their own plights,
Absorbed in their own drama.
Drama abundant.
Drama incessant—
Incessant and irritating,
Incessant and overwhelming—
Overwhelming in its inanity,
Overwhelming with ignorance—
Ignorance and self-servitude,
Ignorance and superficiality.
Superficiality blinds.
Superficiality hides—
Hides sincerity,
Hides goodness—
Goodness we all want to feel,
Goodness we all want to know—
Know from experience,
Know from each other…
Other than bitterness,
Other than isolation—
Isolation in a cold world,
Isolation that doesn’t need to be.
Be alert.
Be aware—
Aware of what you can do,
Aware of how you can help—
Help others,
Help the balance—
Balance between misery and joy,
Balance between despair and hope.
Hope is what we need.
Hope is what we really want—
Want for the world,
Want for the future—
Future for growth,
Future worth living—
Living and learning,
Living and developing—
Developing stronger,
Developing richer.
Stronger.
Richer.
