Poem of the Week: Only When

Only When
December 12, 2014

Only when putting my thoughts into words
Do I feel at all at ease with myself,
Even when I know said words shan’t be heard
Or chance to end up on someone’s bookshelf.
Only when I’ve a pencil in my hand
And paper sitting right before my face
Do I feel like I’m any sort of man
And, in fact, belong to the human race.
Only when I type on my computer
And breathe life into that that’s on my mind
Am I living the life that I prefer
And feel I’m leaving my troubles behind.
No matter how short each session may be,
Only when I’m writing’s the time for me.
