Poem of the Week: Sensationalism

Sensationalism
June 7, 2014

Sensationalism just makes me ill—
Always ‘bout drama, never ‘bout facts.
It’s hard for me to swallow such a pill.

I just want to know what’s beyond my hill—
Beyond my void, oh so empty and black.
Sensationalism just makes me ill.

Still, these spin doctors seems to get a thrill
Bending and stretching truths to Hell and back.
It’s hard for me to swallow such a pill.

They warp information to suit their will
When all I want to hear are cold, hard facts.
Sensationalism just makes me ill.

Their biases, too, taste so much like swill—
Like food that’s already been someone’s snack.
It’s hard for me to swallow such a pill.

Spare me your agendas, you loud-mouthed shills!
No more petty bitching. Just give me facts.
Sensationalism just makes me ill.
It’s hard for me to swallow such a pill.
