Poem of the Week: Be Careful, Crew!

Hello, readers!

Wrestling fans worldwide have had their issues with the state of the professional wrestling industry as a whole for a long time. However, the aftermath of this past Sunday, when WWE held its annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view, has created perhaps the biggest buzz yet…although not necessarily for the better, as far as most wrestling fans are concerned, what with Batista winning the Royal Rumble match itself after not having been in the business since 2010. These fans are additionally outraged at the fact that Daniel Bryan, the company’s most popular babyface, wasn’t even in the Rumble himself in spite of how over he’s been with the crowd for so many weeks on end. Even such industry insiders as WWE legend Mick Foley and WWE megastar CM Punk have voiced their disgruntlement over Bryan’s being held back. Punk has even gone so far as to reportedly leave the company on account of WWE’s booking, which has been described by many as being “complacent,” “sloppy,” and “inconsistent” and meant to focus more on part-timers from years back such as Batista and Brock Lesnar as well as such mainstays as John Cena and Randy Orton, whom many fans have become bored with—including the crowd in Pittsburgh, where the Royal Rumble show had taken place.

The following villanelle has been inspired by this fallout and is drawing upon the assumption that these events are all just part of one big work by WWE management and the WWE booking committee—arguably the biggest work in pro wrestling history. Whether this is true or not is definitely a matter one can speculate over, but at any rate, I hope you folks are able to enjoy Be Careful, Crew!

Be Careful, Crew!
January 30, 2014

Be careful, crew! You’re playing with fire.
You’ve got no room for error anymore.
One more botch, and you’ll surely expire.

Since this past Sunday, you’ve stoked folks’ ire.
They’re now convinced that naught but crap’s in store.
Be careful, crew! You’re playing with fire.

Some are even building fun’ral pyres
For you, should you make a mistake once more.
One more botch, and you’ll surely expire.

Now that you’re coming under the wire,
I just hope you’ve got some big plan in store.
Be careful, crew! You’re playing with fire.

Frankly, I suggest you light a fire
‘Neath your best workers and give them the floor.
One more botch, and you’ll surely expire.

Don’t let your prime show sink in the mire.
Now’s the time to think smarter than before.
Be careful, crew! You’re playing with fire.
One more botch, and you’ll surely expire.

Thanks for stopping by, folks, and as always, happy reading!
