Poem of the Week: Another Irritated, Generic Blackout Poem

Hey, readers!

This week, I’ve got a poem that was “inspired” by a blackout that happened last week around where I live on account of high winds and heavy rainfall. Without further ado, then, to the tune of The Farmer in the Dell, here’s Another Irritated, Generic Blackout Poem. Please enjoy!

Another Irritated, Generic Blackout Poem
November 17, 2013

The power’s out again
Until I don’t know when.
Someone better call the EC.
The power’s out again.

There wasn’t even a storm.
This blackout’s far from the norm.
Either way, ticked off though I am,
At least we’re all safe and warm.

I’m writing by the light
Of a high-powered flashlight,
And yet, my eyes are still burning
And just might be all night.

My patience is wearing thin,
And I’m going out on a limb
To come up with a decent rhyme.
Oh, what a mess I’m in!

So much do we rely
On electricity, guys,
That I’m really starting to feel it hit me
Right between the eyes.

I should be working on
My computer running strong
Finishing up that book of mine.
Let’s hope it’s not too long

Before the power comes back,
For this whole thing is whack.
Batteries don’t last forever, you know,
And soon again, it’ll be black,

And I don’t feel like a nap,
For my head’s not yet in my lap.
Hurry up, EC! Set things straight
Before my frail mind snaps.

Aw, pish! What’s the use?
I’m cranky like a goose,
And if I don’t give my brain a rest,
I’ll be drained of creative juice.

Therefore, I’ll call it quits.
I’ve had enough of this.
I’m angry, tired, and out of gumption.
This is the pits.
