Bonus Poem of the Week: The Flock Ain’t Always Right

Hey, readers!

This past Tuesday, I’d promised that I’d publish a poem that was more positive for my weekly “Poem of the Week” segment than the one I’d posted at the time. However, I felt that the matter couldn’t wait, so I’ve decided to post it today. It’s a simple villanelle that I’ve dedicated to all those who’ve had the courage to be themselves in the face of peer pressure and to not let others’ opinions of them sway them from turning away from the morals and values that they hold dear to them. Without further ado, then, as an apology for my poem from a couple of days ago, I give you The Flock Ain’t Always Right. Please enjoy!

The Flock Ain’t Always Right
August 20, 2013

Popular opinion ain’t always right,
So even if folks don’t agree with you,
Believe in what you know. Don’t give up the fight.

“Ev’ry one’s doing it.” So it’s cool, right?
Why? ‘Cause following’s so easy to do?
Popular opinion ain’t always right.

Naysayers won’t listen? That’s quite alright.
Prove them wrong in whatever you may do.
Believe what you know. Don’t give up the fight.

Sheep can’t think for themselves, day or night,
And for that often end up in a stew.
Popular opinion ain’t always right.

Thus, be a horse and never fear to bite
The bullet and let your nerves see you through.
Believe what you know. Don’t give up the fight.

And when the flock goes left while you go right,
Don’t second guess yourself. Instead, stay true.
Popular opinion ain’t always right.
Believe what you know. Don’t give up the fight.

Well, there you have it, folks. Hopefully, those of you who are still in school will get something out of this when it comes to “fitting in” with the other students, and even if that scene isn’t the case for you, feel free to share this little composition with your friends all the same. Also feel free to visit my author pages at Smashwords.com, Amazon.com, and Amazon.co.uk to check out my current list of e-books, and in the meantime, remember this: You’re only “nothing” if you’re not yourself. Take care, readers, and as always, happy reading!

Regards,
Dustin M. Weber
