Bonus Poem of the Week: One Week ’til Christmas

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays, readers!

No time for a long, drawn-out message here. I just wanted to share with you all a little something that I was able to whip up last night that I hope elevates people’s spirits, even if the title of this very poem is technically off by one day. Without further ado, then, here’s One Week ’til Christmas.

One Week ‘til Christmas

December 16, 2012

We need a little Christmas, now so more than ever,

And yes, bringing such joy and cheer is indeed a great endeavor

To all the people in the world who celebrate Christmas Day,

But hey—all the more reason to get things underway,

So turn on your Christmas lights, put some carols on the radio,

Keep your fingers crossed for the chance that we might get snow,

Trim that Tannenbaum of yours, if you haven’t by now,

And deck your halls with holly ‘til all your housemates say, “Wow!”

Clean that chimney for ol’ Saint Nick, whip up some fruitcake batter,

Wrap up those last few presents of yours, for now’s the time that it matters.

Throw some logs in the fireplace and have your loved ones gather ‘round

To watch some Christmas specials such as Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

It’s one week ‘til Christmas, after all—no time to procrastinate,

So let’s fill the air with the Yuletide spirit before it’s too late.

The new year can wait ‘til next week, but right now’s the giving season,

So pass ‘round the eggnog and figgy pudding, for there’s no longer a reason

To hold back the practice of the lesson preached to us this time of the year.

We’ve one week ‘til Christmas, I say again, and we need some Christmas cheer.

That is all. Until next time, then, dear readers, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays in general, and happy reading!
